Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the new ID Polo GTI, marking the brand’s first fully electric model to wear the iconic GTI badge. The hot hatch is based on the recently revealed all-electric Polo EV but gets several performance-focused upgrades, both mechanically and visually.
The ID Polo GTI uses a 52kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing 226hp and 229Nm. Volkswagen claims the electric hatchback can sprint from 0-100kph in 6.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 175kph. The battery offers a claimed WLTP range of 424km, which is around 30km lower than the standard ID Polo with the same battery pack.
Charging speeds are fairly quick too. The hatchback supports 105kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 24 minutes.
Compared to the standard electric Polo, the GTI version gets a sharper design with sportier styling details. Up front, there are new Matrix LED headlights, a red accent strip and redesigned bumpers. It also rides on larger 19-inch alloy wheels and gets a new roof spoiler with a split design. GTI badging across the exterior further separates it from the regular model.
While the overall silhouette remains similar to the standard ID Polo, the GTI is slightly longer and lower. It measures 4,096mm in length and has a boot space of 441 litres.

Volkswagen says the ID Polo GTI will go on sale in Germany in autumn 2026 at a starting price of just under 39,000 euros, which is roughly Rs 43 lakh before taxes.
