Maruti Suzuki Dzire Achieves 5-Star Safety Rating: A Milestone in Vehicle Safety

Maruti Suzuki’s All-New Dzire has achieved a significant milestone by securing a 5-star safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP). This achievement marks the first time a Maruti Suzuki sedan has attained the highest safety rating under BNCAP, underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing vehicle safety standards in India.

Enhanced Safety Features

The upgraded Dzire, launched in November 2024, comes equipped with advanced safety features, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and pedestrian protection as standard. These enhancements reflect Maruti Suzuki’s efforts to align with increasing consumer demand for safer vehicles.

Performance in Crash Tests

In the BNCAP crash tests, the Dzire demonstrated robust performance

  • Adult Occupant Protection: The vehicle scored 31.24 out of 34 points, indicating strong protection for adult occupants.
  • Child Occupant Protection: The Dzire achieved 39.20 out of 49 points, reflecting effective safety measures for child passengers.

The structure and footwell area were rated as stable, capable of withstanding further loadings. Additionally, the car offers three-point seatbelts in all seating positions and i-Size anchorages as standard.

Industry Recognition

India’s Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari, praised the achievement, emphasizing the importance of mainstream models elevating safety standards. He noted that the Dzire’s 5-star rating sets a new benchmark for vehicle safety in India.

Looking Ahead

Maruti Suzuki has announced plans to equip all its vehicle models with six airbags by the end of the 2026 fiscal year. This initiative aims to enhance safety across the brand’s entire lineup, allowing Maruti to compete with rivals like Tata Motors and Mahindra, who already offer multiple five-star rated vehicles.

The Dzire’s achievement underscores the growing emphasis on vehicle safety in India and sets a precedent for other manufacturers to prioritize occupant protection in their designs.
