Car Sales in December 2024 – YoY Overview
Leading the pack of 14 mainstream car brands is Maruti Suzuki, with a dominant 40.49% market share. The company sold 130,115 units in December, marking a 24.18% increase in YoY sales with 34,141 more units sold. However, the brand faced a 7.92% MoM drop, losing 30,247 units when compared to November 2024, where 141,312 units were sold.
Tata Motors has quickly risen through the ranks, moving from 4th in October to 3rd in November, and now securing the 2nd position in December 2024. The company sold 44,221 units, reflecting a 1.73% YoY growth, adding 750 units in volume. However, it experienced a 6.04% MoM decline, losing 2,842 units in volume. Tata’s market share stands at 13.76%.
MoM Sales Comparison – December 2024
Hyundai and Mahindra saw similar sales figures, with 42,208 and 41,424 units sold, respectively. Hyundai experienced a decline of 1.27% YoY and 12.52% MoM, while Mahindra posted a 17.78% YoY growth despite a 10.38% MoM drop. Toyota, with 24,887 units sold, had a 16.45% YoY growth but saw a slight 1.18% MoM decline, maintaining a market share of 7.74%.
Kia, MG, and Honda secured the 6th, 7th, and 8th positions with 8,957, 7,516, and 6,825 units sold in December, respectively. These brands exhibited varied sales trends. Kia saw a significant drop of 28.55% YoY and 56.52% MoM. Honda, despite a 13.63% YoY decline, enjoyed a 36.36% MoM increase. On the other hand, MG showed impressive growth, with 70.82% YoY and 24.87% MoM gains. In terms of market share, Kia held 2.79%, MG had 2.34%, and Honda accounted for 2.12%.
Car Sales Market Share – December 2024
Volkswagen and Skoda’s sales were closely aligned, with 4,787 and 4,554 units sold, respectively. Both brands saw YoY declines, with Volkswagen down 2.90% and Skoda down 2.45%. However, they experienced significant MoM growth, with increases of 57.83% for Volkswagen and 57.8% for Skoda.
Renault and Nissan showed contrasting sales trends. Renault saw a 44.92% YoY and 2.49% MoM increase, selling 2,881 units. In contrast, Nissan experienced a 1.49% YoY decline and a 9.56% MoM drop, with 2,118 units sold.
Lastly, Citroen and Jeep, both brands under Stellantis, occupied the 13th and 14th spots. Citroen sold 566 units, experiencing a 12.92% YoY drop but a 11.2% MoM growth. Jeep, on the other hand, had a 34.4% YoY gain, although its MoM sales dropped by 20.78%, with 286 units sold.
