In India, sedans have become less popular over time, with more people choosing SUVs and crossovers instead. Because of this, most car manufacturers now offer mostly SUVs, with only one or two sedans. Toyota stopped selling its smaller sedans (Corolla and Yaris) but kept the Camry. The Camry is known for being spacious, reliable, and full of technology, making it a popular choice for those looking for a luxury sedan. While other car brands from Europe and China compete with the Camry, they can’t match Toyota’s long-term reliability and great customer service. This is why the Camry continues to lead in its segment.
Now, Toyota has launched the 9th generation Camry in India. Like the previous model, it is only available as a petrol-hybrid, with an e-CVT transmission and front-wheel drive. The car is available in six colors: Cement Gray, Attitude Black, Dark Blue, Emotional Red, Platinum White Pearl, and Precious Metal.
The Camry is being assembled in India at Toyota’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka, using imported SKD kits. It uses the same TNGA-K platform as the previous model, which is also used in other Toyota and Lexus cars sold in India.
The 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid is priced at Rs. 48 lakh (ex-showroom), which is considered competitive. Its closest rival, the Skoda Superb, is priced at Rs. 54 lakh (ex-showroom), but the Camry offers a hybrid engine, while the Superb only has a petrol engine. The BYD Seal, an electric car, costs between Rs. 41 lakh and Rs. 53 lakh. There are also other sedans from German brands around the same price, but they are smaller and less comfortable than the Camry.
The Camry comes with many features like telematics, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, JBL sound system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a head-up display, UV-cut glass, sunroof, rear window sunshades, adjustable and ventilated front seats, reclining rear seats, and more. For safety, it has Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (ADAS), 9 airbags, SOS call, electronic safety features, TPMS, a 360-degree camera, and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers. It has also received a 5-star safety rating from ANCAP.
The Camry comes with a 3-year/100,000 km warranty. Owners can also buy an extended warranty of up to 5 years/220,000 km. The car also includes 3 years of free roadside assistance. The hybrid battery comes with an 8-year/160,000 km warranty.
